Mahogany springs lodge is located in the northern section of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park which is known for having half of the remaining mountain Gorillas in the world. Mahogany Springs Lodge offers privacy and serenity blended with optimal comfort in a spectacular setting with some of the most luxurious accommodation facilities in the East African region.

Consisting of just 8 large stone cottages, each with their own private veranda and modern minimalist decor. The lodge offers unrivalled service to clients due to the highly trained and professional staff employed at the Lodge. You will feel relaxed after your gorilla trek in the northern section of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Some gorilla families frequently and surprisingly visit this lodge so once in a while occupants get to view these gorillas.

Mahogany Springs lodge comprises of suites constructed and designed to utilize the surrounding beauty. Each room has large and wide windows to allow for freshening views of the forest and the nearby plantations. All suites/rooms have en suite bathrooms, dressing table and all beds have mosquito nets to protect you from any mosquito bite.
Mahogany springs is one of the few lodges that have Hydro Electric power so while at the lodge, you can charge your cameras, phone .You are saved with a hassle of solar charging

Due to the lodge’s close proximity to Bwindi Impenetrable National park, it allows visitors to participate in activities such as gorilla trekking in Buhoma and Ruhija with 5gorilla groups trekked from the Lodge. These include Rushegura, Mubare, Habinyanja, Oruzogo and Bitukura the last two gorilla families requiring a drive to reach the starting point. The other activities include, forest and nature walks, Buhoma Village walk that takes you around tea and banana plantations, the home of the Batwa who once inhabited the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest but were pushed out of the forest when this forest was gazetted as a national park.

The lodges, location offers stunning views over the Munyaga River Valley.

While in the main area of the lodge you will find a glorious wrap-around terrace that offers panoramic views alongside the sounds of the river.

The a la carte menus change daily, with flavours from all over the world, including Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Europe. A barbecue night is held at least once a week and the chef bakes fresh cakes and biscuits daily. Mahogany Springs also offers private bush breakfasts by the river.

While at Mahogany Springs Lodge, you will see different bird species and if you are interested plant a tree or shrub on the grounds, enjoy nature walks or meet the Batwa tribe, better known as the pygmies of Uganda.

Tourist activities at Mahogany springs

  • Bird Watching

Experienced bird watchers are known to identify up to 100 species a day in Bwindi. Bwindi contains 90% of all Albertine rift Endemic such as; the Short-tailed Warbler, Rusty-faced woodland Warbler, Bar-tailed Trogon, Gruel’s Rush Warbler, Wilcock’s Honey-guide, Yellow-eyed black Fly-catcher, Kivu Ground Thrush, Dusky Crimson Wing, White-tailed Blue Monarch among many others, difficult or impossible to see in any other part of East Africa.

  • Tree Planting

Offset some of the carbon you have used on your trip by planting a tree or shrub within our grounds. Once you have taken part in this activity you can feature on a tree planting gallery if you agree.

Take a beautiful walk through various trails in the forest to the see waterfalls and other marvels.

  • Meet the Batwa people

The Batwa tribe better known as the Pigmies only began leaving their forest homes around 15 years ago and still live locally.

  • Community Tour

This fantastic experience can be arranged when you are at Mahogany Springs. The Tour actually begins at Mahogany Springs where you walk across the river and around the Community. It can last 2-3 hours. On the Tour you will meet a local healer that will explain the various plants they use for medicinal purposes, you will then walk onto meet a few locals who will show you how they brew alcohol from Banana leaves, and from there you will meet other members of the community including some of the local Batwa tribe.

  • Garden Tour
