Love, Murder in Ugandan Gorilla Family

Love, Murder in Ugandan Gorilla Family

Have you ever heard about jilted parties committing murder to their spouses? Have you ever heard of a gorilla in the wild being killed for refusing to get committed in a sexual relationship? During the last quarter of the year 2011, something that was never heard of in wildlife happened in one of the Uganda’s gorilla family within Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.  A  20 year old female mountain gorilla, named Samehe, from the Nkuringo gorilla group in Bwindi impenetrable national park was killed by 2 jilted male gorillas, a case that is common in humans but very rare in the animal world.

Samehe died from wound that she attained in several occasions inflicted by the jilted gorillas within the forest. Before her death, she had her skull examined and her skin stitched by the Gorilla Doctors who tried to save her life that came short after an attack from two males who ripped open her skull in the scuffle.

Samehe refused to show interest in the two male gorillas despite their constant efforts to hang around her and their interest was having sex with samehe  which she neglected. This in turn aroused anger from the two males who beat her up profusely. These males spent several days jumping, rolling and tearing vegetation in their way as they attacked Samehe.

The veterinary doctors intervened on realization that Samehe could no longer keep up with the 20 member group, a sign that she was unwell. Samehe’s head was cleaned and treated with antibiotics but after a few days she passed away. This is a great loss to the Nkuringo gorilla family and  a new phenomenon of murder that is common amongst people has infiltrated into the gorillas!
