The dominant leader of the Mishaya Gorilla group in the renowned Bwindi Impenetrable National Park has been reported dead. According the Gorilla Doctors, the silverback of Mishaya group was found dead early this week in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.
After finding the dominant silver back dead, Dr. Fred and team of the Gorilla Doctors conducted a necropsy (an autopsy performed on an animal ) to determine the cause of this unexpected death and the findings will be communicated soon.
The Mishaya group is one of the 10 gorilla groups that have been habituated for gorilla gorilla trekking in Bwindi. Situated in the Rushaga region of South Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, the Mishaya Gorilla Group was separated from the largest group of mountain gorillas in Bwindi; the Nshongi Gorilla Group. This was after a family argument arose and one of the formerly sub-ordinate Silverbacks – Miyasha led a uprising and split from the major group with close to 8 gorillas.
Today, there are 10 mountain gorilla groups that have been habituated and are open to gorilla tourism in Bwindi Impenetrable, the park in South Western Uganda that is home to nearly half of the remaining total population of the mountain gorillas. Gorilla tourism is a thriving adventure and many travelers from all over the world have been entertained by the Mishaya on their gorilla safaris that included visiting the particular group during their journeys!
Sorry for the unexpected death of the Mishaya Silverback!
