Kibande Gorilla and Baby

Hurray! There’s a new born baby in the wilderness of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. A baby gorilla has been confirmed in the Buhoma Sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

The Uganda Wildlife Authority has shared this exciting news with the world. In a press statement issued today the authority reported that “We are delighted to announce a new born baby gorilla in Buhoma sector. This bundle of joy was born to Kibande of Rushegura gorilla family”.

This is the second birth in the Rushegura gorilla family that has been recorded in less than two months.

Kibande’s new birth makes it her fifth surviving offspring and raises the Rushegura family size to 17 members. She is also the most senior lady and kingmaker of the family that has received thousands of tourists who have gone gorilla tracking in this popular sector of Bwindi.

UWA continues to be committed to the conservation and protection of gorillas to ensure that the population increases despite Covid19 disruptions.
