The Nshongi gorilla family is today easily the most popular family, not only among the tourists coming to track gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park but also among the local communities. This is for two reasons.

It is the only group in all three gorilla countries (Rwanda, Uganda and DRC) that has been tracked by a delegation from Hollywood comprising celebrities, managers and media. It is also the only gorilla family whose launch was celebrated with the slaughter of six cows and where both the local brew (omuramba) and the modern alcohol were aplenty.
