This 5 Days (4 Nights) Uganda safari takes you to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Kibale Forest National Park, two amazing destinations to see primates in Uganda. The trip starts with a visit to Kibale Forest National Park, the park with the highest density of chimpanzees in Africa. You will track the habituated chimpanzees in their natural habitat.
You will later visit the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to almost half of the world’s remaining population of the mountain gorillas. The trek through the impenetrable forest is guided by expert rangers. Upon meeting the mountain gorillas, you have up to one hour to watch the gorilla family.
Trip Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park
Pickup from Urban City Blue Hotel. Set off for Kibale forest National Park via Mityana – Mubende. En route you will have lunch in Fort portal town after which you will have a short town tour in Fort Portal. Drive to the lodge. Dinner and overnight at Kibale Forest Camp (Budget) / Turaco Tree Tops (Midrange) Kibale Primates Lodge (Luxury)
Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking in Kibale forest and Bigodi swamp walk
After breakfast you will be driven to Kanyancu. After a short chimpanzee briefing from the Uganda Wildlife Authority officials, the rangers will take you on a guided walk within the tropical rain forest. Start your search for the wild chimpanzees that colonized this forest. These great apes are known as man’s closest friends because of different characteristics that they have in common with man. Look out in the trees for chimpanzees! Other primates resident in the park include white colobus monkeys, grey-checked mangabey, red colobus, black-and-white colobus, Baboons etc. The park also hosts many different bird species that include the great blue Turaco, Africa pied king fisher , malkites and more. After the trek, return back to the lodge for lunch. Go for a nature walk within the Bigodi swamp to search for the water loving bird species. The swamp area is also a bird watchers paradise. Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable forest National Park
After breakfast, explore the Crater Lake Region. After reaching the “top of the world” you will leave Kibale Forest National Park for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Proceed to Rushaga Area. Have dinner and an overnight stay at Rushaga Haven Lodge (Budget) / Rushaga Gorilla Camp (Midrange) / Chameleon Hill Lodge (Luxury)
Day 4: Gorilla trekking experience
After breakfast at the lodge, drive to the Rushaga Briefing Point. Get briefed about gorilla tracking in Bwindi. After the briefing, the ranger will lead you into the thick impenetrable forest to start your search for the endangered rare species of Mountain Gorillas. The gorilla search always continues from the place where they were last seen the previous day. Upon reaching the area where these famous species are, you will only be allowed to interact with them for only one hour and you should always keep maximum silence while with these gorillas. You are allowed to take photographs and you should utilize your time well so that you get the best out of it. To find the gorillas, it’s such a tiresome experience since it can take you almost 3-8 hours to find them. However, once you meet these gorillas, you will easily forget the hatches you have gone through to find them and instead save the good memories you will experience with them. Day 5: Transfer back to Kampala
After breakfast at the lodge, you will drive back to Kampala with your lunch en route in Mbarara town. On your way back, you will pass via Kabale commonly known as the Switzerland of Africa because of its hills and beautiful scenery. Reach Kampala late evening and drop off will be at your Hotel in Kampala.
