Wondering about where to go for your next gorilla safari in Africa. There are several locations where gorilla tourism has been developed by the Uganda Wildlife Authority, ORTPN and Virunga National Park. Amongst these we share the facts about Kahungye gorilla groups, collected by one of our experts who even took a safari in Uganda, the Pearl of Africa.

KAHUNGYE GORILLA GROUP – GORILLAS IN BWINDI FOREST- UGANDA GORILLA TREKKING

Kahunje Gorilla family is situated in Rushaga and was opened to visitors in 2011. The name Kahunje was derived from the hill in Rushaga where the group was first sighted. Of recent, Kahunje Gorilla group split to form a new Busingye group. It should be noted that the number of gorillas goes on changing with time since the primates multiply.

 

Quick Tips for Travelers Trekking Gorillas

  • Always keep a distance of at least 7 metres away from the gorillas.
  • Do not put on flash while taking photographs or filming the gorillas in the wild.
  • It is advisable to go handy with your packed lunch on a trek through the forest.
  • A considerable degree of fitness is required for travelers taking hikes to the gorillas given that it may require walks uphill along muddy slopes.

Bwindi is one of the famous home to the mountain gorillas. Located in south Western Uganda, Bwindi is home to nearly half of the remaining total population of the mountain gorillas surviving in the wild of Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic of Congo. The Kahungye gorilla group is one of the habituated gorilla groups that are visited by tourists.
